The Show Report, 11/4: Mother****ing PELICAN!

It was early spring of 2007 when we last saw Chicago instrumental-metal group Pelican charge through Springfield, and the band came with an impressive and memorable show: white clothing, and intense white lighting coming up from the floor, ruled the stage as the band tore through one song after another. Back then the latest album in the repertoire was The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw (City Of Echoes was released soon after), which contained several 10-minute-plus songs, the pace of the show was something different and surreal. It was a show that made a few new fans, too; your faithful Show Report scribe got to take the members of rock group Greedy Fleet up to the Outland Ballroom after an interview to watch the show. Within an hour the guys went from “who’s Pelican?” to bobbing heads and pumping fists along with the rest of the room.

Pelican is back tonight, again at the Ballroom and again courtesy of Forever Endeavor Productions, touring behind its newest (and just-released) album, What We All Come To Need, and brings Black Cobra and Struck By Lightning in tow to complete the night’s lineup of bands. Expect much majestic, epic major-chord metal.
