The Show Report, 12/11: Dia Muerto?
Posted on11. Dec, 2009 by thederosh.
Here at FourFour HQ, we find the phrase “Dead Day” to be a gross misrepresentation of what today actually is. Yeah, we get that local universities are heading into final exams and are allowing students a free day to devote to studying (cough), but today and tonight are by no means without life. As evidence, we submit Exhibit A: John Henry & The Engine comes to Springfield to release the vinyl pressings of its I Don’t Wanna Know EP, and brings Truett & The Traitors along for the ride. The boys will rock and the girls will swoon, you can count on that. The EP, a rootsier progression from the band’s previous album, Under the Yellow Moon, is already available for $2.97 on iTunes, but tonight is the first time you can pick up the physical copy. Vinyl lives!
Know what? That’s not even the only CD release party you can go to tonight. More–lots more–after the break.

The Show Report, 12/3: Showcase time!
Posted on03. Dec, 2009 by thederosh.
Tonight is an important night for a few reasons, but we’ll start with one close to our hearts. We’re holding the first of what will now be monthly showcase shows at Lindberg’s, and the first one is classic FourFour fare. We start with The Dark Alleys, the darkly retro (dare we say rock noir?) band back from hiatus since summer and tearing it up on stage. After that, brand-new pop-rock-meets-post-grunge (how’s that for an adjective?) group Golden Giant, sporting The FourFour’s own Scott P. on drums, plays a short introductory set. Next up will be garage-pop group Sunrise Cassette, belting out hooks than the now-upcoming Mayweather/Pacquiao superfight. Lastly, because we can’t send you off to bed or afterbars without a little zany tongue-in-cheek metal, we close the night with the recently reclusive but presently trim, tight and still-crazy Knife*Death, complete with new material, we hear. Does it all make sense together? Of course not… and that might be the most exciting thing about it. Watch for lots more goodies at future showcases, too. Let’s just say we have some stuff percolating that we think you’re going to like.
Man, who is ready to party? Here are your other options going down tonight:

Ah, scheduling. It’s all plug-and-go… until it isn’t. We’ve had some juggling to do with this Thursday’s first of monthly FourFour showcase shows at Lindberg’s, and it works out that there is one open spot left. Bands, do you want to join in the fun? Find out how after the break.

FourFour on First Thursday: Monthly showcase shows at Lindberg’s begin in December
Posted on20. Nov, 2009 by thederosh.
We love Thursdays around here. Not only is it Local Music Thursday every Thursday at Coffee Ethic, but it’s the fourth day of the work week, DeRosh can get in his Community fix before showhopping, Kurtzender can find better drink specials to chain-smoke to and at least one of Scott P.’s 37 bands is usually practicing that night. Beginning December 3 there will be another reason, and one you will hopefully benefit from as well. We’ll tell you more after the break.

My Wasted Life announces final show ever
Posted on11. Nov, 2009 by thederosh.
It’s with a tinge of sadness, having been at My Wasted Life’s first show at Bugsy Malone’s in the fall of 2006, that we pass on the news that the local ska/punk/rock band has announced its farewell show. It should be one hell of a party, though. Read on for more.

Your Project Indie winner is…
Posted on03. Nov, 2009 by thederosh.
Music and fashion are a natural fit together, as both are manifestations of artistic and creative tendencies. Like to make music? You probably have an eye for (some for of) style. Consider yourself a trend-forward person when it comes to your look? Your musical tastes probably falls along similar lines. For a second consecutive year, Project Indie has sought to put this not-always-talked-about synergy in the spotlight, with Indie Clothing and Q102 working on a contest where bands conceive visual representations of what they’re about and are matched up with local artists who bring the concepts to life in T-shirt form. The finished shirts were presented at Indie during October’s First Friday ArtWalk for public voting. Today we got word of which band came out on top.

Odds & Sods **UPDATED**
Posted on11. Aug, 2009 by thederosh.
Needless to say, it’s been a busy couple of weeks at FourFour HQ–whatever that is–so a few news items have inevitably slipped through our grasp as we’ve attended meetings and taken care of pressing matters, both on the website and off. However, we don’t want you to be out of the loop, dear reader, and [...]

If you missed last night’s Rock Talk on Z106.7, Stoma chatted with Josh from the Dark Alleys about the Jack Oblivion and the Tearjerkers show coming to the Outland Ballroom October 4th (the Dark Alleys and Sweetwater Abilene are the openers), along with Timmy and Drew from the Disappointments. "IF YOU'RE NOT INTO METAL, YOU ARE NOT MY FRIEND"
Posted on23. Aug, 2008 by Scott P..
That’s the headline on The Filthy Thirds’ Myspace, and yup…pretty much sums up what’s going down tonight.
We recently reviewed the brand new Filthy Thirds’ album being release tonight, “Stone Dead” (read the review here). This is the most aggressive, loud and guitar-driven rock/metal to hit Springfield in some time. Think Danzig killed and ate Motorhead and [...]
