At last! New recordings from We Are Like the Spider–with the full band
Posted on22. Dec, 2009 by thederosh.
Local electro-rock group We Are Like the Spider has been riding a wave of buzz since the knockout debut performance of its backing band in July. Shows have intentionally been sparse since then, in part because the band has been working on re-recording its material with live bass and drums. Now, five months after that debut show, the recording work bears fruit.

Get ready for the five-pointed palm exploding HeartPunch: Supergroup’s album due in Febuary… possibly.
Posted on21. Dec, 2009 by thederosh.
Remember when Yankton Sothern side project HeartPunch was a one-concert-only assemblage? Yeah, we didn’t think it would work out that way, either. The idea of a band fronted by the Fullers Earth guitarist/Bottlefish drummer and backed by The Skeletons‘ Lou Whitney, BringYourGreenHat’s Ritchie Allen and The Domino Kings‘ Steve Newman is just too good to [...]

Posted on09. Dec, 2009 by thederosh.
We have noticed an exciting trend in recent weeks: A lot of local bands are either headed into the studio to start working on a new album or are finishing up a CD for release. Most of them won’t be done in time to make them into your next holiday stocking-stuffer, but some will be in hand to celebrate Groundhog Day (2/2) and more will be available by Valentine’s Day. See? We’ve got this gift-giving thing on lock, especially for that pesky Groundhog Day gift. Perform clicking motions below and you will, too.

LEAKED: Three (so far) tracks from upcoming Sociables album
Posted on08. Dec, 2009 by thederosh.
The long-awaited album from local funk/hip hop group The Sociables is still a work in progress, inching its way toward reality, but the band’s Facebook fans got a peek inside the treasure chest a little earlier today. Sociables keyboardist/Wired Woods recording guru Danny Maple posted three tracks from the upcoming CD to the Internet for your listening pleasure, and they sound pretty damn tight. We flex the linkitude after the break.

Cuz Chicks Dig 'Em: scarswillfade returns
Posted on01. Sep, 2009 by thederosh.
There has been a flurry of defunct bands returning to stages in Springfield this year, but when we heard local rock group scarswillfade would be joining that list we were a bit surprised. We hadn’t heard so much as a rumor about the group since its farewell show at The Snorty Horse Saloon oh-so-long ago. [...]

Springfield Music Scene, this could be your album
Posted on25. Aug, 2009 by thederosh.
We’ve seen ensemble casts in movies, even the occasional ensemble song, and there are certainly some smaller ensembles out there that made albums… but what about a local ensemble? Cory King, guitarist for The First Teenager Ever and Sunrise Cassette in addition to doing solo work, began work on an album project a few weeks [...]

Last month we told you about MayApple Studio, the house-turned-uber-cool-recording-space on East Cherry Street. (You can peep some photos of the space by clicking here.) The studio is run by Daniel Maple of The Never Saints and The Sociables, who comes with considerable credentials stemming from his time recording Top-40 artists in Los Angeles, and is [...]

Washington Irving's new EP now on The Internets
Posted on22. Jul, 2009 by thederosh.
One has to admire the pluck of Washington Irving, a group in its final weeks but scrambling to get everything done that it can before its demise. There are far more cases of bands mailing it in at the eleventh hour, but the local indie-rock band took the opposite approach in the hopes of cleaning [...]

We aren't dead yet! Washington Irving prepares EP of unreleased tracks
Posted on14. Jul, 2009 by thederosh.
No, they will not go quietly into that good night, sir. Indeed, Washington Irving will rage against the dying of the light as long as it can. Not only has it booked more shows in less time than ever before in order to take advantage of the last while before guitarist Brett O’Neal moves to [...]

Can't Stop the Flow: Roots Of Mankind singer working on hip hop record
Posted on26. Jun, 2009 by thederosh.
We’ve known for some time now that Roots Of Mankind singer Jason Nunn likes a little hip hop flava in his reggae-song lyrical delivery, and we were never more sure than after he and his bandmates did a little freestyling and beatboxing during last Sunday’s episode of Rock Talk. Now we know just how serious [...]
