The 2009 Year In Music: The Web Exclusives
Posted on29. Dec, 2009 by thederosh.
You’ve gotta love The Internets. In a year full of full-album releases and newly pressed singles and their corresponding parties and concerts, The Springfield Music Scene still found time to throw web-surfing fans the occasional bone. Whether you wanted a single song, a crazy cover or a whole album, bands provided examples of each on their MySpace pages and websites for your perusal and download. Some couldn’t be found anywhere else, either, making them web exclusives, an idea near and dear to our hearts since we’re a sort of web exclusive ourselves. Game recognizes game. You’ll find some of 2009’s most memorable songs released only on the Internet after the break.

Moodring Records makes it rain music
Posted on16. Dec, 2009 by thederosh.
In a world where The Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame decides it’s a good idea to take a chance, take a chance, take-a, take-a chance, chance on inducting ABBA, at least we have low-fi morsels such as those from Moodring Records as a counterpoint. The little local label that could has been super-busy lately, releasing a Christmas single, four Matthew Darkly EPs totaling 19 new songs, a not-heard-before Rugs demo and more. It is all available FREE via the Moodring blog, and we’ve got links after the break.

The Great Recording Update of However Long It Has Been Since the Last Recording Update
Posted on09. Dec, 2009 by thederosh.
We have noticed an exciting trend in recent weeks: A lot of local bands are either headed into the studio to start working on a new album or are finishing up a CD for release. Most of them won’t be done in time to make them into your next holiday stocking-stuffer, but some will be in hand to celebrate Groundhog Day (2/2) and more will be available by Valentine’s Day. See? We’ve got this gift-giving thing on lock, especially for that pesky Groundhog Day gift. Perform clicking motions below and you will, too.

The long-awaited album from local funk/hip hop group The Sociables is still a work in progress, inching its way toward reality, but the band’s Facebook fans got a peek inside the treasure chest a little earlier today. Sociables keyboardist/Wired Woods recording guru Danny Maple posted three tracks from the upcoming CD to the Internet for your listening pleasure, and they sound pretty damn tight. We flex the linkitude after the break.

We mentioned in a previous post that one of the big concerts on Springfield’s horizon was the debut show of newly formed rock group Bomb the Bay, which features a combination of members of A Day Away, Glass Bottom Boat Ride and Playing With Matches. Longtime Springfield showgoers could imagine the fruits of that combo already, [...]

We’ve been hearing about Greene Coast’s live set at FourFourFest ever since it happened; that was four and a half months ago. Now, after some wrangling, the progressive-jam ensemble has finally released the tracks for public consumption. We’re pretty stoked, and not just because we helped make it happen. More after the break.

ATTENTION BANDS: Create the next Rock Talk theme song!
Posted on30. Mar, 2009 by thederosh.
We’ve talked about it on-air for some time now, and we’ve decided it’s time to take the idea more seriously. Already acts including Jam Room and Danny Maple of The Never Saints have improvised an on-the-spot Rock Talk theme song in the studio, but even if you haven’t been on the show lately we want [...]

New music by SincerelyYours

It’s been a while since we got the chance to mention new tracks posted by an artist, and this seems as good a time as any. Local hip hop ace SincerelyYours just put up several new tracks on his MySpace page, including two with collaborator Addie. All four tracks are hot, and not the sort [...]
